For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven… a time for war, and a time for peace.
Officially dubbed The Twelve Day War by U.S. President Donald Trump, the war between Israel and Iran has officially come to an end. But for all intents and purposes, the past twelve days of fighting can essentially be viewed as a continuation and expansion of the war that's been raging between Israel and Iranian proxy groups since the Hamas led invasion of Israel on October 7th, 2023. Over the past twenty months, Israel has decimated Iran's strongest and most well armed proxies, including Lebanese based Hezbollah. And while it isn't over yet - approximately twenty living hostages remain captive in Gaza - Iran has had to witness their entire “Axis of Resistance” crumble before their eyes. Now, with their entire nuclear program, along with their stockpile of ballistic missiles destroyed, any leverage the so called Axis of Resistance had is now gone, and Israel has simultaneously asserted themselves as the dominant military power in the region.
So naturally, the question is, “What happens next?” On the ground, the focus will surely shift back to Gaza, with U.S. Mid East envoy Steve Witkoff already working with mediators to secure a hostage deal. As mentioned in previous publications, one of the major sticking points in negotiations has been Hamas’ demand for a permanent end to the war, with Israel preferring only a temporary ceasefire. So why should we expect a different outcome this time? In short, now that the head of the octopus (Iran) has been cut off, there's little, if any, leverage left for Hamas, a mere tentacle in Iran’s proxy network. In other words, a hostage deal is surely on the horizon.
But there's more than just a hostage deal on the horizon. I'm speaking of course about Donald Trump's proposed “Deal of the Millennium,” formerly known as the “Grand Bargain” or “Deal of the Century.” But it's not just the name that's been upgraded - the stakes are higher as well. Rumors are swirling that President Trump is aiming for complete reconciliation between the Islamic and Jewish worlds, and that he plans to use his “art of the deal” skills to broker a historic agreement that will not only include an expansion of the Abraham Accords, but an apparent resolution to the Arab-Israeli conflict as well. And by all accounts, his influence appears to already be working. Following Iran's defeat, any reservation Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have had about such an agreement seems to have evaporated. In a televised victory speech following Operation Rising Lion (Israel’s title for their military operation in Iran), Netanyahu had this to say about the future of the Middle East:
“With the elimination of Iran's evil axis, we will open an axis of peace and prosperity for the peoples of the region... We are already working on this, vigorously, and the time will come to reveal our actions."
It would appear that the dismantling of Iran’s Axis of Resistance - including Iran itself - has cleared the way for a new landscape to emerge in the Middle East - one that includes Israel and the larger Arab world joining together in a historic peace/security alliance. Of course, students of prophecy are well aware of the implications of such a deal. And now that Iran’s been bumped down the totem pole of regional influence, a power vacuum is sure to emerge. The question is, who will rise up to fill it? And more importantly, what will their intentions be? For now, we must watch, wait, and pray. Up until now, the region’s seen nothing but war. But soon, it will see something very, very different.
“Peace.”
